Kdrama Challenge: Question 22

22 Nov

What is the most annoying drama cliché?

Oh not the first time Lee Kyu-won fell. Just the one she did the most damage. Poor little Shin’s dreams were ruined with this fall….

I hate the overly clumsy girl.  Trust me I am really accident prone but I have not fallen down as much as some of these female leads.

The first of many drunk moments for Ah-jung.

Oh soju.  You get used waaaay too many times as a plot device.  I do love a funny drunk scene as the next person but sometimes they abuse you poor soju.  The best example of this is Lie to Me.  Wow did Ah-jung loved to get herself sloppy drunk.  Her plus soju did not did not equal super happy times.

My sister’s opinion:

I hate the fish kiss.  You know the first kiss that shocks the girl and she makes this super surprised face.  It is really awkward to watch this one-sided kiss.

Favorite I Love You?

My favorite I love you is not from a main character and it isn’t really even a happy one.  Jeremy’s (You’re Beautiful) reaction to Go Mi-nam and Tae-kyung being a couple completely caught me off guard.  You think he is going to have his normal fun-loving go with the flow Jeremy reaction.  Oh no….  Just like Go Mi-nam you don’t realize how much he really liked her.  Now I am not one to feel much emotions and can be a little cold-hearted during sad touching scenes.  Even I teared up a little bit when he sung the song and then told her that once this bus ride ends he will return back to happy Jeremy.  Lee Hong-ki did some AMAZING acting in that scene.

My sister’s opinion:
Coffee Prince – He was being a dill hole pretending that he was mad that she use to like Han-sung.  Then she said it “I love you.  I love you.  I really love you!”  and he was all shawhaaa.  Then he told her that he loves her more.  It was cute.

What is your favorite scene?

I love this scene in You’re Beautiful where they poke a little fun at the real world of fan fiction particularly the boy love genre.  I don’t know what it is but people (especially females) love to pair guys up into romantic pairings.  The only thing missing from this video is after the scene you find that Jeremy is reading the fan fiction.  I found it funny that Jeremy has been not only following the fan fic series but finds it interesting.

I also really like part of the opening sequence of Protect the Boss which I have already done a post on.

What is your least favorite fashion sense?

Gong Ah-jung from Lie To Me – So I will confess that I don’t really hate her style  its more that there is something about it that annoys me.  I am going to sound like a complete nerd but it drove me crazy the way she dressed at work.  Everyone one else in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism dressed all professional EXCEPT Ah-jung.  I would obsess about it every time there was a scene where she was at work.  Don’t get me wrong there were some scenes where she was dressed in the proper office attire but other days where I was like Ah-jung you might want to check your dress code guidelines…….

Jeremy from You’re Beautiful – Before you all hate me,  I heart Jeremy sooooooooo much as he was such an awesome character.  But you have to admit that he was put in some tragic outfits and hairstyles (ok one hairstyle) compared to the rest of the band A.N.Jell.  Not all the hair or clothes were bad but there were a great many.  Trust me I am ready with photographic proof…….

My sister’s opinion:

Jeon Jin-ho from Personal Taste – They kept putting him in high waters.  I started feeling bad for him like he went around for months with cold ankles.  There was also this one scene where he had the high waters and this weird suit jacket with no sleeves.

Park-ha from Rooftop Prince – I HATED those white shoes.  Ugh then she had a pair in black as well.

Kdrama Challenge: Question 9

9 Nov

Ok sooo….. my sister and I are bad at following directions.  We had totally intended to follow this challenge list to the letter but then we got discussing how if we made this list what questions we would have put on it.  Starting today, we are going to deviate a little from some of the questions.  That being said on to question 9.

What is your favorite female and male character fashion sense?

Gil Da-ran and Seo Yoon-jae from Big – I really like the slighty retro preppy look that both of them had.

Hwang Ji-an – The ultra fashionable shoe designer.  She was chic and stylish without being over the top trendy.

All the boys from Shut Up Flower Boy Band – Oh how I love punk rock boys.

My sister’s opinion:

Lee Kyu-won from Heartstrings –  I like her  because she wore a lot of cute skirts and had a fun girly style.

Wi Mae-ri from Mary Stayed Out All Night – I loved her layered boho look.  Oh and the red sweater!!

What are your favorite female character quotes?

“Hey Dog Chi-s00!” – Eun-bi (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop)

“OH HA NI” – Jung Joo-ri (Mischievous/Playful Kiss)  I will FOREVER remember her screaming this.  My sister used to yell this at random moments.  Not everyone thought it was super fun…..lol.

“I really don’t get why they all run around obsessing over a guy like you.” – Lee Kyu-won (Heartstrings)

“Yeah… you dragged me here but it’s a good thing. If I told him that I was sorry and to ignore what I said, I would’ve been a stupid person.” – Gil Da-ran (Big)

My sister’s opinion:

“Honestly, I do like chestnuts but the cheesecake was some other bitch.” – Yoon-seul (Secret Garden)

What are your favorite male character quotes?

“If you ask such a direct question in the morning… then I’ll be embarrased! Is my face red?” – Kang-hyuk (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop)

“Why did I kiss her? Because I was angry. Why was I angry? Because Go Mi-nam was going to meet Shin-woo like a fool. Why did I block that? Because I didn’t want her to get hurt. Why would that bother me? What is Go Mi-nam to me, anyway? Ugh, this is complicated and confusing. I have to give Go Mi-nam a good look where it’s lit, and think about it again.” – Tae-kyung (You’re Beautiful)

“I like you. Whether you’re a man or an alien, I don’t care anymore.” – Han-kyul (Coffee Prince)

“What? Feelings are not vending machine! Coke don’t come out just because you want one!” – Oska (Secret Garden)

“Do you like decorating trees? I hate it – I hate making a ruckus on anyone’s birthday but my own. But… I thought that you would like it. You only like things that I hate.” – Kim Joo-won (Secret Garden)

“Excuse Me!  Hey Poop Head!”   Cha Ji-heon (Protect the Boss)

My sister’s opinion:

“Hey be a fan of 2pm not me okay?  How about Beast?  They’re pretty good. ”  Oska (Secret Garden)

Kdrama Challenge: Question 5

What is your favorite third wheel female character?

This question is a little harder to answer than the previous question.  The third wheel female characters typically are a little lackluster for me as they are put there to kind of make the main female look even more perfect in our eyes.  A lot of times they are really in the frenemies category so you are not supposed to like them.  So do I really have a favorite?   Not really but there are ones that I like more than others.

Noh Eun-seol and Lee Myung-ran

I think the one that comes the closet for me is Lee Myung-ran in Protect the Boss otherwise dubbed by Cha Ji-heon as Miss Wrestler.  She is just as tough as the lead Noh Eun-seol and is always there when needed.  The opening sequence of Protect the Boss had me sold on the “player” duo.  But Myung-ran is not just a one-dimensional bestie to the lead; she has hopes and aspirations of being a professional wrestler (hence the nickname).  Miss Wrestler was already awesome in my eyes by this point of the drama but she really shined when Seo Na-yoon enters their world as a roommate.  These two paired up made for some funny moments as Na-yoon awkwardly tries to navigate the situation.  It was also hilarious to watch the spoiled and uber fashionable Na-yoon form a strong relationship with the tough mother hen Myung-ran.  You wouldn’t think in the beginning it would work but it totally did.
My sister’s opinion:

Myung-ran and Na-yoon

I think it was Ice Cream (Seo Na-yoon from Protect the Boss) and Miss Wrestler (Lee Myung-ran).   Combined they were adorable.

I also like the best friend from Heartstrings,  Bo-woon.   She was absolutely clueless.  It was funny when Lee Shin got revenge for her always ruining his chances with Lee Kyu-won.

Your Favorite Third Wheel Male Character?

Ugh this is going to be so hard to pick one.  The third wheel main characters tends to be some of my favorites so I am definitely not going to be able to narrow this down to a single person.  This would be like picking a favorite between my children……well if I had children.  I would imagine it would be very hard to do.  So I am going to cop-out and pick a few that I like.

Choi Kang-hyuk (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop) – Yes he is sort of lazy and sleeps all the time but he can also cook and is funny.  Plus he is super tall.  If you want on know more on why I heart him just check out this post.

Joo Byung-hee (Shut Up Flower Boy Band) – He has a very short but memorable stint on this drama.  He is not a character that can just be quickly described.  If you have seen this drama you definitely know what I am talking about.  If you have not go watch it.  I mean it go watch this drama just for this character alone.  Go now this post will be here when you get back.  Trust me.

Woo Yong-sul (Rooftop Prince) – Oh how I wrote this character off when he was first introduced.  Pfftt….just a boring strong guy.  Oh and I hated all that hair but I did apologize for the error of my ways.  Yong-sul was at times so awkward and always getting in trouble for things he did.  There ways so much layers to this deceptively simple character.  He was funny.  He was sensitive.  He was heartbreaking.  By the time he got his “modern-day” makeover, Woo Yong-sul had completely won me over.

Oh and I totally agree with my sister down below.

My sister’s opinion:

Definitely hands down no doubt about it sassy old lady haired Oska. I ❤ that dude.  I hated him when I first started watching.  Remember that? I almost stopped but didn’t and I loved him by the end.

Kdrama Challenge: Question 3

What is your favorite lead female character?

If you have been reading this blog it is no surprise that I tend to lean towards stronger female characters.  I like a character that can hold her own and generally a little sassy.  Which is why I am Team Hermione or even Team Katniss and not so much Team Bella.  My problem sometimes is that you start off with this really great strong ready to take on the world female until she meets male and that starts to slowly dwindle away.  By the end of the drama you are like where is the girl we saw in episode one.  So needless to say one thing that makes a female character great to me is that awesome girl staying true to herself all the way through.  That being said the female character I choose is Kim Sam-soon from none other than My Lovely Sam-soon.

Kim Sun-ah as Kim Sam-soon

There is a realness and relatability to Sam-soon that I like.   Sam-soon originally thinks that she needs that perfect Cinderella story happy ending to make her life perfect.  She wants to be ten pounds thinner, have the perfect boyfriend and change her name to become that perfect women.  That just is not Sam-soon.  She is not perfect like we all aren’t and just like the rest of us she has a hard time accepting that it is all right.  Sometimes she is tough, crass and says what is on her mind other times she is crying.  She isn’t as pulled together or perfect as other lead females.  Not every thing come easy to her like when she finally opens her own bakery.  It’s not an instant success and is something that she will have to work at to make it successful.  Even her ending was not one hundred percent picture perfect and she was ok with that.
My sister’s opinion:

Ha Ji-won as Gil Ra-im

Gil Ra-im from Secret Garden.  I like that she wasnt fawning all over Kim Joo-won and got sassy with him when he was being dumb.
