Big Episode 1

The episode opens up with Gil Da-ran running to deliver a bridal bouquet.  When she finally arrives, Bridezilla is about to unleash some wrath as the bouquet is late.  That is until she, and actually the twenty friends taking the photo with her, realizes that they all know knows Da-ran as a former classmate.  Oppsie she accidentally on purpose didn’t invite Gil Da-ran to the wedding but half heartedly asks if she would like to be in the photo.  Gil Da-ran declines as she feels out of place but as she is leaving she decides to stay and get a meal out of the deal.

While eating, she gets a call from her boss telling her that an accident was made and the bride got the wrong and more expensive bouquet.  Now Da-ran is charged with the task of getting the bouquet back.  She decides that catching the bouquet is the only and less embarrassing way to get it back without any added drama.  She almost would have succeeded if someone didn’t bump into her causing her to fall down a flight of stairs.   We get to watch it all unfold in typical drama slow motion action while getting out first glimpse of Seo Yoon -jae who was the accidental bumper.

Flash forward a radio host recounts the story of how the couple meet as Da-ran is boarding a bus.  We find out that Gil Da-ran broke her wrist and tailbone when she fell down the stairs but don’t worry Seo Yoon-jaw is a doctor who stayed and treated her through the whole process.  In the end he asked her to marry him.  As well, she is studying to take her civil servants exam while working as a high school teacher.  Oh and for her story she wins a rice cooker.  Score she can now cross that off of her list of things the newlyweds needs.

Gil Da-ran notices a  youngling staring at her and is slightly flattered.  Gil Da-ran gets off the bus and opens her umbrella as it has started to rain.  The young man gets off the bus and grabs on to the umbrella as well while intensely staring.  Da-ran doesn’t know what to do.  She tells him that she noticed that he was staring and he retorts back everyone was staring at her due to her excitement over the free rice cooker.  He claims the umbrella is his and she finally concedes asking him to give her umbrella to her then.  He scoffs saying he would not take someone else’s umbrella.  That is crazy talk.  She finally decides to make a dash for it seeing as that she is at her destination; the high school she works for.

After getting chastised by the vice principal for coming to school wet, a new super smart transfer student who studied in America is introduced.  Surprise surprise it is the boy from the bus Kang Kyung-joon.  Oh and who gets to show him around……Gil Da-ran.  Kyung-joon is completely not interested in the tour and Da-ran keeps correcting him on his informal speech.

He also teases her about the radio story that she entered under the name “Miss K” as he puts two and two together listening to a phone conversation between Da-ran and Yoo-jae.  Yoo-jae is busy at work therefore needs to cancel their plans.  Eventually he gets completely bored and jumps out a nearby window.  Luckily it was just the first story.

Kang Kyung-joon  is stopped by three students obviously trying to be way cooler than they probably were.  Then begins the who can speak the better English challenge.  Really none could. Kyung-joon calls them stupid and walks away.  On the first attempt to attack Kyung-joon the leader misses and falls and the second his punch is stopped by Gil Da-ran.  Da-ran starts laying into the leader who we find out is her brother Gil Choong-shik.  Kyung-joon watches intently at the exchange between the siblings and you get the feeling that something is missing from his life.

We get to see Kyung-joon at his rather huge and empty house.  His fridge is filled with frozen pizzas in which he microwaves one himself.   He then lays quietly on his bed knocking wooden figures to the ground.  The suspicions are correct; he seems to be alone.

The Hair of A.N.Jell

22 Jun

The drama You’re Beautiful centers around the idol group A.N.Jell.  Being the rock stars that they are, their style , especially their hair, was always evolving and changing throughout the series.  Well maybe not so much Shin-woo but the other two definitely.  This is a look at the evolution of their hairstyles.

Though this screen shot came later in the series,  I put it first as it represents A.N.Jell early in their career.  I do prefer Jeremy as a blonde.  Also I love the prep school look they have going on here.

This hairstyles of episode one.  I will admit this was not my favorite for Tae-kyung.  I found it too severe with it being super straight and angled.  Also this was one of two hairstyles that Shin-woo had in the entire series.   Jeremy had a messy side swiped Justin Bieber thing going on.

Shin-woo with the same hair as the picture before but with his bangs styled slightly different.  Jeremy wearing proudly a a little side pony tail and Tae-kyung with his bangs styled up like in the first picture.

I like this variation of Tae-kyung’s hair much better then the one above.  It’s the same cut but the messy side bang action brings it two a whole new level.  This is Shin-woo second hairstyle which he pretty much kept through the series with maybe small changes here and there.  I really liked this shorter cut with an asymmetrical bang that Jeremy rocked in this shot.

Oh the dreaded mushroom top….. I had to stop the episode and walk away when I saw Jeremy’s hair.  My mind just could not process it at all.  I will admit I still can’t.  Even now I look at it and go why oh why.  But on the plus side,  this was when I really started loved Tae-kyung’s hair.

I do believe this is from the last episode.  Tae-kyung’s hair is a variation on the picture before.  Though I hated the mushroom top,  I sort of liked Jeremy’s mini little buns in this scene.

Chef and Goldfish

4 Jun

I realized I wrote a whole summary on Pasta but barely touched on the relationship of Choi Hyun-wook and Seo Yoo-kyung.  Part of me loved some of the little cute moments of their relationship and the other part was screaming “DON’T LET HIM TALK TO YOU LIKE THAT” to the screen (hello freezer scene).  I already wanted to love head chef Choi Hyun-wook because of Mr. Deep Awesome Voice, Lee Sun-gyun.  But lets face it, Chef is the kind of arrogant guy you sort of want to punch in the face for some of the things he says and does.  He has those cute little lovey tender moments you go awww but then later he becomes that jerk.  Seo Yoo-kyung, aka Goldfish, some times can be a push over not only to Chef but the other cooks at La Sfera.  You just want to shake her and say stick up for yourself.  That being said Yoo-kyung does persuade stubborn Chef to bend a little.

Here are eight reasons I liked or hated their relationship!

1.  Their Meet Cute – I love the flirty and awkward meeting of these two.  Chef helps Yoo-kyung after some rude dude knocked into her causing her to drop a bag with two goldfish in the middle of a cross walk.  He fills her hand with water to house the little fishes and helps carry her other bags.  While walking and giving her fun facts about goldfish, Seo Yoo-kyung can’t help but try to figure out his angle.  Is he a player, a gentleman or just plain weird?  When they get to her destination, she realizes that she can’t get the key with her hands full of some goldfish and asks him to help.  During a clumsy session of find the key, he makes the comment that she deliberately can’t remember where the key is to make him feel her up.  She looks at him like he is crazy and says NO but he had said it only to laugh at the awkward situation.  Hyun-wook ends up asking her out but then teases her for hesitating and not saying no right away.  To “save” her dignity he will pretend he had been rejected for two days and then for Yoo-kyung to meet him at the cross walk.

2.  The nickname Goldfish –   After watching the conversation where Chef says that goldfish only have two second memories and were basically stupid, this nickname kind of perturbed when I really thought about it.  I know many would probably disagree with me because it was meant to be cute and romantic.  It is probably just me over analyzing the nickname.  Just ignore me……

3.  I don’t know if I want to punch Chef in the face or laugh my ass off that he still showed up for their meeting at the cross walk even though he had fired Seo Yoo-kyung that very night from La Sfera.  I think a little bit of both.

4.  Yoo-kyung buys Chef chocolate for Valentine’s Day and has Chef spelled out.  I was sort of obsessed with the red heart chocolate.  She even writes him a little note which he teases her about. Unfortunately the fired female chefs ruin the whole moment thinking they busted Chef for having a relationship with some one else from the kitchen.

5.  Oh the Freezer Scene …. I’ve already said my piece about this.  Ugh it gets me fired up every time I think about it.

6.  I did love the fact that when it came down to it Chef didn’t lie about the relationship when it was finally exposed.  He could have kept on keeping it a secret but he didn’t.  He said it loud and proud in front of the whole kitchen staff even though it mean losing his job.  Actually Chef was the one who wanted to stop hiding it in the first place; Seo Yoo-kyung kept insisting on keeping it quiet so no one would get fired.  Even when the so-called friends of Yoo-kyung confronted him over the chocolates, he never denied the relationship.

7.  He does truly want her to learn.  He gives her his book of mistakes.  He helps her with the frying pan.  Also Chef makes Yoo-kyung the substitute for the New Chef Competition even when jerky Team Korea wanted to switch her out for kitchen assistant Jung Eun-soo.  Yoo-kyung is the only one of the Korean trained chef that realizes that chef Hyun Wook is hard on them because he wants them all the cooks to be the best.  Eventually she does improve upon one of his “mistakes” in which he gives her much deserved recognition for.

8.  I was frustrated with Seo Yoo-kyung’s decision to stay after she helped La Sfera and Team Korea win the New Chef Competition by stepping in to replace Ho Nam.  She won the competition with a beyond creative take on pasta.  Her whole goal was to be a great chef and three years in Italy would have been an invaluable wealth of knowledge.  After watching her spunky way of getting hired and later not fired at the top notch La Sfera, I am amazed the same girl decided to forgo Italy.  On the same note, I was peeved at Chef for having the plan of never letting Yoo-kyung go to her well deserved spot to Italy.  He wants Ho-nam to go in her place because he “deserves” it more.
Chef:  From the beginning I didn’t want to let her go.
Ho-nam:  Does she know?
Chef:  No
Ho-nam:  She might kill you.
Chef:  I’m fine with being killed.  I feel like I’ll die if I’m apart from her for now.
Me: Whatever (eye rolling)
